Lokalize plans compared
Lokalize has four plans — Basic, Pro, Premium, and Business. This page compares what each one includes and explains how billing works so you can pick the right fit.
How billing works
- Most plans include a monthly word allowance for AI translation. You can also buy word packs anytime for extra words.
- Your monthly allowance resets on the 1st of each calendar month (UTC). Unused words don't roll over.
- Word packs never expire and stack on top of your monthly balance.
- Theme content translation is always free and never uses credits (except when you are using your own API key).
- Manual translations are unlimited and free on every plan.
- Image-translation limits are lifetime, not monthly — and updating an already-translated image is free.

Basic is for trying Lokalize and running small, occasional translations.
- No monthly word allowance — AI translation runs on word packs you buy as needed ($6.49 per 20,000 words). Manual and theme translation are always free.

Pro — $8.99/mo
Pro adds a monthly allowance and the ChatGPT engine.

Upgrading, downgrading, and cancelling
- Upgrade — your word allowance is immediately reset to the new, higher amount, and any new features become available instantly. Your purchased word packs are preserved.
- Downgrade — you keep your remaining balance, but plan limits are enforced right away. If you have more AI languages than the new plan allows, the most recently added ones are disabled. If you have more glossary entries than allowed, the newest are removed (oldest kept). If your engine isn't available on the new plan, it resets to Default. Existing translations in Shopify are never deleted.
- Cancel — you're moved to Basic (Free). You keep any remaining word balance and packs, and all existing translations stay in Shopify. Your image-translation usage carries over, since it's a lifetime count.
Frequently asked questions
When does my monthly allowance reset?
Your included word allowance resets at the start of each calendar month (UTC). Unused words from the previous month do not roll over. Purchased word packs are not affected by the monthly reset.
What happens when I run out of credits?
AI translations stop until you have credits available again. Any translations already registered remain in your store. You can wait for your monthly allowance to reset or purchase a word pack to continue immediately.
Do theme translations use credits?
No. Theme content — sections, templates, app embeds, locale content, and settings — is always free to translate and never deducts from your word balance.
